The Britons start to cultivate tea trees in India in 1835, and, to increase the prices of teas, they create a system classifying teas according to their appearances, still validating in Kenya, Sri Lanka, and India etc. Generally speaking, the grade of whole loose leaves is higher than that of broken leaves. The grading system is based on the sizes and the appearance of tea leaves, "F" standing for "Flowery", the bract of tea, and "OP" standing for "Orange Pekoe". PinCha uses the "OP" level of Ceylon Ruhana black tea, the hand-picked second leaves tea from Sri Lanka.
The grading system is:
- Whole Leaves
- SFTGFOP Super Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe
- FTGFOP Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe
- TGFOP Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe
- FOP Flowery Orange Pekoe
- FP Flowery Pekoe
- OP Orange Pekoe
- Broken Leaves
- GFBOP Golden Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe
- GBOP Golden Broken Orange Pekoe
- FBOP Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe
- BOP1 Broken Orange Pekoe 1
- BOP Broken Orange Pekoe
- BPS Broken Pekoe Souchong
The tea brewed by tea tips taste delicate and is suitable for drinking without milk. Therefore, PinCha chose "OP" level of Ceylon Ruhana black tea, hand-picked the 2nd to 4th leaves from tea tree, complete fermenting and then drying. The tea tastes bitter and astringent if drinking directly, and it exactly matches milk in flavor! The tea is an excellent choice for whom the first-time visitor!
